If you get to see a piece of pottery by Lucie Rie you will likely have to fight the urge to pick it up. Her work is mesmerizing. This is the exhibit catalogue for the Kettle's Yard 2023 exhibit and simultaneously a comprehensive look at her work and life. Lucie Rie was an unknown potter when she came to the UK as a refugee . Unable to get a license, she spent the war making buttons, getting to test out glazes. She moved on to teapots and tableware, worked with sgrafito and formed a collaboration with Hans Coper. She spent five decades making pottery in the UK, influencing design and designers. Written by Andrew Nairne and Eliza Spindel with essays by Edmund de Waal and others.
